Tom’s Original TAN-Fastic Natural Herbal Tanning Solution

In the 1980s, when fitness centers were springing up everywhere, Tom and Kam Caniglia opened Body Talk.  Soon after, they began participating in body-building contests.  Other contestants approached Tom with questions about the product he and his wife used to simulate a tan.  The following “recipe” gives the ingredient proportions of the solution Tom invented and shared.  He named it Tan-Fastic.  However, when he applied for a copyright, he discovered that Sea and Ski Company had already claimed it.  He never marketed the tanning solution and theorizes that it would never sell today because of the absence of sunscreen in its ingredients. 

Tom’s Original TAN-Fastic Natural Herbal Tanning Solution

55% distilled water*

25% mineral oil

10% aloe gel

2.5% olive oil

2.5% almond oil

3.0% alcohol

1.5% glycerin

.5% vitamin E

Tea concentrate

*Distilled water includes tea concentrate made with 32 ounces distilled water and one ounce instant tea.

Boil tea really dark.  The tea dyes your skin.  Adjust tan by adjusting the color of the tea; brown tan, not red.  Will stain clothes.  Natural looking.
